Farmers Branch OKs interlocal agreement for North Texas emergency communications site

Farmers Branch approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to sign an interlocal cooperation agreement to purchase land for the new North Texas Emergency Communications Center.
Deputy City Manager Juwarya Tarrin told the council the total maximum project cost is $22,263,000, with Farmers Branch’s budgeted share set at $5,000,000. The land being purchased from Metrocrest Hospital Authority totals 4.1 acres and carries a $3.1 million price tag; the city’s portion of that parcel was presented as about $718,000.
Council members asked whether the project budget includes contingencies; Tarrin confirmed contingency funds are built into the total estimate. The city’s participation is part of a multi-jurisdiction effort that also includes the Town of Addison, Carrollton and Coppell.
The council approved Resolution 2024-217 by show of hands. No public opposition was raised at the meeting.
The next steps include formal execution of the interlocal agreement and the land purchase process; staff did not identify a closing date during the presentation.
