When asked how she became mayor, Johnston answered, "I had to buy yard signs," bringing laughter to the chamber.
The city secretary read the proposed proclamation and Councilmember Madeline Powell moved to accept it; a second was recorded and the motion passed. After the vote, Mayor Foreman recessed the regular meeting for 10 minutes to allow students, teachers and guests to take photographs and enjoy refreshments.
The proclamation is primarily ceremonial: it recognizes Wedgwood Elementary and celebrates student civic engagement. No fiscal or policy action was attached to the proclamation; the council returned to its regular agenda after the recess.
