Coppell says systems restored after cyber incident; targeted server remains under review

City staff reported Dec. 10 that city systems and data have been restored following a recent cyber incident, and the city is continuing a focused review of one server that may contain data at risk.
Interim director of Enterprise Solutions Josh Latrell told council "the city has restored all systems and data" and said the city and its external experts are "triaging and indexing the server to understand the scope of the data contained therein" so it can provide required individualized notice to any impacted parties. Latrell said the process of identifying impacted parties and issuing notifications is ongoing and conducted in coordination with legal counsel.
Council members thanked staff for their work. City Manager Land said regional local governments are confronting a campaign of related attacks and praised staff for their response. The city posted a reference guide on its website with instructions on ordering credit reports, placing fraud alerts and other protective steps.
No further action was taken by the council at the meeting; staff will continue investigations and notifications as required by law.
