Coppell reports systems restored after cyber incident; city triaging a single potentially impacted server

Interim director of Enterprise Solutions Josh Littrell updated the Coppell City Council Dec. 10 on a recent cyber incident. Littrell reported city staff and external experts have restored systems and recovered data, but identified one server that may contain data at risk. The city is triaging and indexing that server to determine the scope of potentially impacted records and to provide required notifications.
"As of date, the city has restored all systems and data," Littrell said, adding staff continue to work with legal counsel and external cybersecurity experts to evaluate and notify anyone whose information may have been affected. He urged residents to consult the city’s online reference guide to learn about ordering free credit reports, contacting the Federal Trade Commission, placing a fraud alert, or authorizing a security freeze.
Council members thanked the IT team for its work. Littrell said notification, information, and resources will be delivered directly to affected individuals once the triage is complete.
Next steps: staff will complete indexing of the identified server, determine notification requirements, and provide notices and resources to affected residents and employees.
