During public comment at the CalHFA Audit Committee meeting, homeowner and ADU grant recipient Laura Sanzuki said she and others are involved in an active fraud investigation involving Anchor Tiny Homes and asked the agency to consider what follow-up or protections the agency provides to grant recipients whose funds may have been misused.
"This company takes advantage of that and asked upfront for all that money and then abandoned all the contracts," Sanzuki said while describing a $40,000 ADU predevelopment grant escrow and multiple allegedly abandoned contracts.
A second commenter, who identified himself as John and said he is Kathys husband, asked the committee to consider special assistance or grant consideration for people harmed by the alleged scheme. Chair Delilah Sotelo thanked the commenters, said the committee could not respond during public comment and noted staff would follow up either directly or indirectly.
CalHFA staff acknowledged the comment and the chair suggested adding program follow-up to a future committee agenda if staff determine it is appropriate; no formal action or investigation was initiated during the meeting and staff did not provide details of any ongoing agency inquiry in the public record.
