Waco ISD board unanimously hires Dr. Tiffany Spicer as superintendent

The Waco Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously at a special meeting to hire Dr. Tiffany Spicer as the district's superintendent and authorized the board president to execute an employment contract on her behalf.

The motion to hire Dr. Tiffany Spicer was moved and seconded by unnamed board members and passed without discussion. The presiding official called for the vote, board members signaled their approval and the presiding official announced the motion passed unanimously.

Dr. Tiffany Spicer addressed the board and attendees after the vote, saying, "Words cannot express how elated I am to serve as superintendent of Waco Independent School District. To say I'm excited is truly an understatement." She thanked the board, faculty and staff and said she has been watching Waco "for over 5 years," praising the district's "heart, passion [and] pride." She said she is committed "to ensure we will build upon the solid work and the district and the work led by Dr. Kincannon."

In her remarks, Dr. Spicer emphasized staff and student partnership: "Every position in the district is critical to the success ... We will work together to ensure the success of our students, our staff, our families, and our community." She expressed eagerness to meet students, families and staff and acknowledged her family in attendance.

Trustee Vidania was noted as absent from the meeting; the presiding official said he "could not get off of work" and sent his apologies. After Dr. Spicer's remarks the presiding official congratulated her and adjourned the meeting, asking trustees to meet briefly in front of the dais.

The board recorded no discussion on the motion in the transcript beyond the formal roll to vote. The motion and unanimous outcome were the only formal board action recorded in this special meeting.
