During routine business Dec. 31 the Centre County Board of Commissioners approved numerous appointments and reappointments across authorities, boards and commissions, approved a year-end check run and heard a voter-registration report from elections staff.
The board announced appointments and reappointments for bodies that included the agricultural land preservation board, recycling and refuse authority, joint rail authority, industrial development authority, planning commission, aging advisory council, hospital authority and the universal construction code board. The board thanked volunteers for their service and encouraged interested citizens to contact Aaron in the commissioners' office about openings. Commissioner Dersham said he had "heartburn" over some Centre County Industrial Development Authority appointments and expected to cast a no vote on those specific reappointments, but the overall motion to approve the slate carried.
Commissioner Concepcion moved to approve the check run dated Dec. 27, 2024 (primarily utility payments); the motion was seconded and carried.
Amber (Elections) presented a voter-registration report: total registered voters 101,700, a net decrease of 8,376 since the last report due largely to removing inactive voters. Amber provided party counts: Democrats 41,393; Green 157; Libertarian 558; No affiliation 15,460; Republican 4,295; and other parties 1,096. Amber highlighted Precinct 80 (Spring Township West) with 692 registered voters and a 79.3% turnout in the last election.
The board announced that Centre County government offices will be closed Jan. 1 for New Year's Day, and listed upcoming meeting dates (Jan. 7 at 10 a.m.; Jan. 9 combined Board of Commissioners and Salary Board meeting at 10 a.m.). With no further business the commissioners adjourned at 10:40 a.m.
The actions taken complete routine year-end administrative steps and set the board schedule for early January.
