Residents press commissioners on election errors, Voter Services turnover and property-search privacy

During the meeting’s public comment period, residents raised a string of concerns about local election administration, public-records privacy and the board’s handling of disruptive audience behavior.

Carol Campenny of Westchester Borough told the commissioners she witnessed an unidentified man shout "Fascist" at a speaker and said Commissioner Maxwell did not remove the individual; she called that tolerated behavior "a disgrace" and said it set a precedent for violent speech. Other speakers alleged continuing problems inside the Department of Voter Services, pointing to staff turnover and mistakes that have received national attention.

Several commenters urged the board to go beyond a narrow process review of the recent election problems. One former candidate and other speakers recommended creating an independent, bipartisan commission to review election procedures rather than relying solely on an external law firm. Supporters of that approach said a tripartisan panel—Republicans, Democrats and independents—would add credibility.

On a separate privacy topic, a resident raised concerns that the county’s name-based online real-estate search (ChescoView) allows anyone to discover where a landowner lives simply by entering a name. The commenter asked the board to consider removing name-based search, requiring on-site access at county facilities, or requiring user accounts to reduce misuse while preserving public-record access.

Commissioners noted follow-up measures including scheduling a public Q&A on the budget that same evening and offered to continue reviewing election and records practices.
