Chester County honors longtime communications director Becky Brain at retirement ceremony

Chester County commissioners and a string of former colleagues gathered to honor Becky Brain on the occasion of her retirement, praising her 19 years of service as the county’s communications lead and noting personal qualities that colleagues said made her indispensable.

Commissioner Moskowitz delivered an emotional tribute, saying Brain "treats everyone, every single person, with dignity," and credited her steadiness during crises and day-to-day communications. Eric Roehl presented a formal citation congratulating Brain on a "well deserved retirement." Former colleagues recalled that she helped launch the county’s communications program, assembled the photo archive and insisted on clear, precise writing.

Brain, who said her career took her between the U.K. and Chester County, thanked co-workers and reflected on how the job’s variety — from parks and emergency services to planning and taxes — made the role rewarding. Speakers also shared lighter memories: colleagues praised her advocacy for the Oxford comma and recounted how she brought home-produced honey to meetings as a sign of her personal generosity.

The tributes included recognition from former county administrators and department directors who said Brain set the standard for public-facing communications and helped commissioners present complex information clearly to residents. Colleagues emphasized that while many of her contributions happened behind the scenes, they had tangible impacts on public outreach and county reputation.
