School board approves conveyance of Ward's lot to county for nonprofit development

County counsel and the board attorney presented an amended resolution and an amended interlocal agreement to transfer Ward’s lot to the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners for nonprofit development. Attorney Minnis told the board that statutory requirements were met and that the interlocal agreement includes language ensuring the property’s use complies with restrictions from the original grant (recreational/public-purpose language).
Board member Speaker 6 moved to approve Resolution No. 2025 authorizing the conveyance and the interlocal agreement; Speaker 5 seconded. Attorney Minnis said the only substantive change from earlier drafts was the inclusion of language noting the property appears on an amended five-year work plan as no longer needed for educational purposes and the clarifying language about original-grant restrictions and public-purpose use.
Speaker 8 (county counsel) confirmed he had researched land-use authority and said county construction can proceed. The resolution and the interlocal agreement passed unanimously.
Attorney Minnis also suggested staff ensure future resolutions contain consecutive resolution numbers for recordkeeping; the superintendent was asked to handle that administrative detail.
The board did not take additional public testimony on the action at the time of the vote.
