The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors voted to assign tax certificates for Parcel 0619229008 and Parcel 0619229009 to the City of Sui City for an assignment fee of $10 per certificate. County staff told the board the city had demolished dilapidated buildings years ago; the city special assessments account for the bulk of the outstanding charges. The board adopted a motion that abatement of back taxes will occur only after the city takes deed to the properties.
Treasurer staff reported outstanding amounts and noted that city specials accounted for the major share of charges; the board and city indicated the city would absorb those costs in order to transfer the parcels to investors who plan redevelopment—likely a parking lot and restoration to tax rolls. Supervisors approved the assignment motion by voice vote.
