The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors approved the opioid settlement review committee’s unanimous recommendations to allocate settlement dollars to three local initiatives aimed at opioid misuse prevention and treatment.
Committee leadership described that Prairie Ridge Integrated Behavioral Health requested $18,440.55 to establish a methadone‑based opioid treatment clinic to serve residents who otherwise travel long distances for medication‑assisted treatment. Deb, a Prairie Ridge representative, explained the clinic would increase access to lifesaving medication‑assisted treatment and reduce overdose risk in the region.
Kossuth County Public Health requested $755 for a SafeRx program supplying locking prescription vials for high‑risk home health patients to reduce unauthorized access and diversion. Public health staff also asked $9,400–$10,000 to cover costs to host a nationally recognized presenter (training, Narcan demonstration and distribution) if exact fees require that range. The committee’s chair said applicants were presenting start‑up and prevention proposals consistent with the county’s memorandum of understanding for settlement funds.
Supervisors moved and seconded approval of the three awards; a roll‑call vote carried. The board later corrected the resolution numbering and re‑voted to formalize the award (Resolution 1222502). No formal objections were raised during the public meeting. County staff noted the fund balance before awards and the expected ongoing receipt schedule of settlement dollars over future years.
