Resident warns board a proposed multi-tank propane site could threaten nearby homes and says flooding remains unresolved

Nina Howard, a resident of 204 Drift in Woodridge Road, told the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners the county had not notified neighbors and said a proposed ‘‘propane farm’’ of multiple tanks would sit only a few hundred feet from her front door.

"There is a proposed propane farm. I'm not talking about 2 tanks. Farm as in many, many, many tanks," Howard said during the public-comment period, adding she fears both explosion and fire risk and that recent flooding has worsened at her property.

Howard also urged the board to enforce permitting rules and said she had not received notice that the project was under review. She said a long-running drainage problem has left her home vulnerable to floodwater and asked commissioners to investigate both permitting and road/drainage work in the area.

County staff responded that the planning office had no record of a valid application for that site and that the planning and enforcement teams would be sent to inspect. A county representative told the board they would work with the building official on stop-work authority if construction were under way without permits.

The board did not take formal action during the public-comment period but directed staff to dispatch code-enforcement and road-department personnel to check permitting status and to inspect local drainage.

Next steps: staff indicated they would investigate the reported permits and the flooding issue and report back to the board; the item may return to a future agenda if enforcement or permitting actions follow.
