COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Kootenai County commissioners unanimously authorized county staff and legal counsel on Nov. 18 to proceed with a demand that VitalCore Health Strategies defend and indemnify the county against a claim by Jack Campbell.
Speaker 2 told the board the matter was time sensitive and that ICREM’s outside counsel needed to send the letter that day. Speaker 2 moved that the board "authorize staff and [county] counsel to proceed with demanding that VitalCore Health Strategies defend and indemnify Kootenai County from and against Jack Campbell's claim." The motion was seconded, and Commissioners Eberline, Duncan and Chair Metairie each voted aye. The chair declared the motion carried.
The board did not discuss legal strategy in detail during the public portion of the meeting. Commissioners described the item as an emergency addition to the agenda because of counsel deadlines, and the motion authorized staff to proceed with the demand letter drafted by outside counsel.
The action taken was procedural authorization to proceed with a demand for defense and indemnity; any further litigation steps or settlement negotiations were not discussed during the 10 a.m. session and would be handled by counsel and county staff.
