Torrington staff report Well 16 pipe correction, East D paving progress and wastewater work
Summary
City public works reported a pipe orientation issue at Well 16 requiring a swap so the mag meter will function, paving and curb/gutter work on East D Street, and continued progress at the wastewater treatment plant including headworks curing and sewer lining.
Public works and utilities staff updated the Torrington City Council on Nov. 18 about several ongoing projects and an equipment issue at a municipal water well.
Jeff Harkins reported crews discovered incorrectly oriented pipe sections at Well 16 and will swap the sections so the mag meter, which measures flow, functions correctly. He said the RO unit has been cleared and is running, and that once the Well 16 piping issue is corrected the well will return to full operation.
On roads, Harkins said East D Street paving has reached 22nd Avenue and crews will continue paving to the next block, with curb, gutter and sidewalk scheduled next week from 23rd to 24th. At the wastewater treatment plant, contractors completed the ceiling/floor work over the Headworks building and are installing pumps and equipment inside the bypass lift station ahead of interior coatings; Harkins also reported the sewer lining project is underway.
The council asked whether the closed road segment would reopen for winter; staff said the stretch will be reopened until work resumes in spring.
