Kootenai County opens bids for Runway 220 rehab and PAPI lighting; several firms submit proposals

Kootenai County commissioners acknowledged sealed bids Dec. 2 for a runway rehabilitation and PAPI lighting project at the county airport and sent the bids to legal counsel and airport staff for review.
Kim Stevenson, speaking for the airport, opened the bids and asked the board to note sub-totals for Schedules A, B and C and a project total. Bidders and totals read into the public record included Thorco (Schedule totals and $206,744 all schedules), Power City Electric of Spokane ($253,791.70 total), Mesquite Electric of Mesquite, Nevada ($365,870 total), Cole Vico (listed total $153,608), DACO Construction Company Inc. of Norfolk, Nebraska ($333,333 total), Midland Electric Inc. ($309,252.98 total) and Boundary Electric of Bonners Ferry, Idaho ($183,060 total).
Stevenson said it had been a long time since the county saw this level of interest in airport projects. After the clerk read the bids, a commissioner moved to acknowledge the bids and forward them to the county attorney and airport staff for review; the board voted unanimously to do so.
The board did not award the contract at the meeting; staff said the bids would be reviewed by legal and airport staff before a recommendation to the board.
