Committee narrows priority crosswalk locations and plots outreach, budget timeline

The committee reviewed extensive lists of suggested pedestrian crossing locations and agreed to a two-step approach: invite neighborhood associations and the community diversity engagement committee to add input, then poll committee members to identify top three priorities for engineering review and budget consideration.

Members highlighted Lock Haven at River Road, Windsor Island/Loch Haven and McClure as recurring candidates. The group emphasized that selecting sites is distinct from selecting treatments; members said public works should perform engineering studies to recommend appropriate solutions (painted crosswalks, flashing beacons, or signalized crossings) and that each treatment carries different cost implications.

"So maybe have a little bit more dialogue about where the next steps are you want with this list," the council liaison said, recommending outreach through neighborhood associations before the committee’s February poll. The committee set a timeline to gather community feedback through December and January, poll in February and prepare recommendations for the March/April budget cycle.
