Joshua animal shelter fundraising reports vendor commitments; EDC pledges to match donations

The Joshua Animal Control advisory board heard an update on the shelter's fundraising campaign for kennel and enrichment-area improvements. Staff described multiple community tactics'including flyers, QR-code donations, raffles and partnerships with local businesses and schools to boost contributions.

"EDC has, voted to match up to $22,500 that we collect," said Speaker 2, reporting a formal pledge from the city's Economic Development Corporation. Board and staff also described in-kind support: "We have commitments from vendors and from, a particular contractor who is actually going to donate some of his work, and it is permitted work," Speaker 4 said.

Speakers listed current cash and pledged support that will be used to reduce capital needs: a little under $2,800 on hand, a $1,000 pledge from Waste Connections and additional donated raffle prizes and experiences. The board discussed outreach plans, including a high-school student-council competition and fall events to sell tickets. Staff said donations are collected through a Square-linked QR code and tracked for acknowledgements.

Board members praised the effort and noted the city attorney approved the EDC's ability to match donations. The campaign will continue; staff committed to share printed materials with board members for placement across the community. No formal vote on the fundraising program was recorded.
