Commissioners approved seven nominees to the 2025 Berks County Military Hall of Fame after a presentation by Veterans Affairs Director Jay Ostrich. Inductees will be recognized Nov. 8 at the Veterans Appreciation dinner.
Lieutenant Colonel Jay Ostrich, director of Berks County Veterans Affairs, presented seven nominees for the 2025 Berks County Military Hall of Fame and asked the board to ratify the class.
"I'm lieutenant colonel Jay Ostrich. I'm director of Berks County's Veterans Affairs," Ostrich said as he introduced nominees whose service spanned World War II, Korea and Vietnam and included recipients of Silver Stars and Bronze Stars. Commissioners heard excerpts and anecdotes describing the nominees' military service and community contributions.
Commissioner Christian Linebach read an email from a local veteran praising the department's staff: "My VA representative, Will Tobin, is a gift to our community," the message said, an example commissioners cited as evidence of the office's impact.
Commissioner Michael Rivera moved to approve the seven inductees; Commissioner Dante Santoni seconded. After brief remarks thanking Veterans Affairs staff, the commissioners voted aye and carried the motion to ratify the class.
Linebach said the formal induction will take place Nov. 8 at the Veterans Appreciation dinner, where inductees or their representatives will be recognized.
The presentation and vote highlighted the county's ongoing support for veterans' services, with officials encouraging veterans to visit the Veterans Affairs office to learn about benefits they may be eligible for.
