Dixie County weighs free naloxone dispensers, schedules public meeting on youth inhalant use

A county health professional clarified that naloxone is now available over the counter and said the 4‑milligram dose is the same adult dose that would be administered in many cases; panelists urged selecting devices with access-control features or wall-mounted placements and spoke about pairing deployments with public education and medication training.
Board members signaled interest in placing units at community hubs and asked staff to identify specific locations and coordinate with the sheriff’s office to avoid accidental exposures. Commissioners also discussed leveraging education and recovery-class brochures compiled by county partners as part of outreach efforts.
