Mayor: Kenner October sales-tax receipts rose 17.27%; city outlines holiday events

At the Dec. 4 meeting, the mayor reported that citywide sales-tax revenues for October were up 17.27%, an increase of $641,644.83 compared with the same month last year. He said year-to-date sales-tax collections were up 4.08%, or $628,498.13, compared with the prior fiscal year period.
The mayor also briefed the council on recent and upcoming holiday events including the 'Sipping with Santa' food-bank fundraiser (held the prior Tuesday), a Rivertown Christmas lights program with weekend entertainment, a Whoville Hunt for children, the fourth annual 'Santa in the Sand' fundraiser at Coconut Beach on Dec. 6 and the Old Man River half-marathon on the Saturday the 13th in Heritage Park. He thanked staff and partner organizations (Visit Kenner, Friends of Rivertown, Chateau Country Club) for hosting and supporting the events.
