Commissioners ratify $73,644 demolition‑fund grant to housing authority

Register and Recorder Tina Mertz introduced the transfer during the commissioners' public meeting, saying the fund is financed by deed and mortgage fees collected in her office. Executive Director Pat Mack described how the county money has been used. "This has gone to emergency demolitions in Sunbury," Mack said, adding funds also supported large demolitions in Cole Township and downtown Shamokin and a committed project in Mount Carmel Borough.
Mack and housing authority representatives said the demolition fund is one of the county's more flexible sources and is used to leverage other financing. Commissioners corrected a typographical error in the ordinance numbering attached to the motion before approving the distribution; the board identified and removed the incorrect ordinance number and proceeded to ratify the payment under the general authority of Act 152 of 2016.
The motion to authorize the distribution passed by voice vote. Commissioners also took a group photo with housing authority members and thanked county staff who help administer the program.
The action is a ratification of routine fund allocation; no additional conditions, timelines for demolition work, or contractor names were specified at the meeting.
