Delaware Valley students designed Pike County’s America 250 bell; unveiling set for Dec. 6

Tricia Koehler, art educator and art director chairperson at the Delaware Valley School District, told the Pike County commissioners on Nov. 19 that high-school AP art students helped design and paint the county’s America 250 commemorative bell.

Koehler said the school asked students to submit sketches focused on what makes the community and Pike County special; the art department selected a design emphasizing the county’s natural beauty and executed the painting after school hours. "My students worked really hard... they're really excited to share it with you on December 6," Koehler said during the meeting.

The bell is scheduled to be unveiled at the borough tree-lighting ceremony on Dec. 6. Commissioners said the public is invited; the program will include earlier events beginning at noon, music and the tree lighting later in the afternoon.

The presentation acknowledged the school’s role in the county-sponsored America 250 program and thanked the Pocono Mountain Vacation Bureau for its sponsorship of the bell program in Pike County. The commissioners invited the school and local organizers to the Dec. 6 unveiling and planned a photo opportunity at the meeting to recognize contributors.
