Commissioners discussed that the vehicle would require modifications — removal of the back seat and installation of a rack for stretcher operations — and whether the coroner’s actual usage levels justify purchasing a new vehicle.
Speaker 5 said the coroner would use Act 122 funds and the coroner has a budgeted transport line (referred to in the session as approximately $19,000) to support transport costs. Commissioners asked staff to confirm frequency of use and cost‑effectiveness before finalizing a purchase.
On financing, Speaker 5 reported bids for a $4,000,000 tax‑anticipation note from Valley Bank (3.99% fixed), Northwest Bank (4.32%) and Erie Bank (4.62%). Staff (Speaker 5 and Brett) said they would review the bids and aim to have a recommended award ready for the board’s next meeting so paperwork would be available if funds were needed on Jan. 2.
No formal award or motion was recorded in the work session; staff will return with a recommendation, usage data for the coroner vehicle and any necessary technical specifications for vehicle modification.
