Jefferson County board approves supplemental assessment resolution, surplus parcels and emergency drought declaration

Jefferson County commissioners approved several administrative measures and resolutions during the meeting.

Supplemental assessment: The board held a public hearing and approved a supplemental assessment resolution to impose a one-year special assessment on roughly 30 properties accidentally omitted from the 2025 roadway maintenance assessment roll. County staff estimated the excess revenue to be collected at about $4,710; if property owners do not pay the supplemental bill, the assessment will be added to the 2026 tax roll.

Surplus property: The board approved surplusing two county parcels to return them to the tax roll. One parcel at 1243 East Clark Avenue (0.327 acres) was set with a minimum/base bid of $19,499 and another parcel at 282 North Forest Court (~3 acres) with a minimum base of $39,581; the bidding process will be sealed and follow standard county procedures.

Emergency drought resolution: Staff presented a National Weather Service report documenting an extreme drought in the region and the board voted to adopt a local state-of-emergency resolution to support drought response efforts.

Other votes and actions: The board approved the consent agenda, formalized a holiday schedule (including a half-day the Wednesday before Thanksgiving), and moved forward with a T-Mobile mural RFP committee recommendation. Commissioners also heard an annual investment report noting $518,008.12 in interest earnings for the fiscal year.
