Sequoia High School marks 40 years under Cherokee Nation stewardship and honors veterans

Sequoia High School Superintendent Terry Eustace told the Cherokee Nation Education Committee the school celebrated Veterans Day and marked the 40th anniversary of the Cherokee Nation’s stewardship of Sequoia.
"On 11/09/1985, Cherokee Nation took over Sequoia... So that marked on Sunday 40 years," Eustace said, crediting past leaders including Wilma Mankiller and the tribal council for decisions that he said allowed the school to thrive. He said recent commitments will yield long-term benefits for the school.
Eustace also described the school’s Veterans Day program and said the Nation’s observance meant veterans were honored and will be allowed free admission to an upcoming home playoff game. Committee members thanked Sequoia’s cafeteria and education staff for providing lunch and decorations.
The committee received the report; no action was required.
