Head Start supervisor Verna Thompson reported to the Education Committee that the program is undergoing a concentrated National Accreditation Commission review and that sites will begin validation visits this week.
"It almost equates to our federal review," Thompson said of the accreditation process, and she named the National Accreditation Commission and said Shady Grove will be the first site to receive a validation visit. She said HR is assisting with background checks to ensure readiness and that the internal Cherokee Nation effort aims to complete validations by mid-December.
Thompson also highlighted supervisors’ efforts to increase access to food resources—coordinating with food pantries and churches—and said family advocates are pointing families to services. She closed by thanking staff involved in the accreditation and family-support work.
The committee received the update and raised no further questions during the meeting.
