Leavenworth County commissioners noted a request from the applicant to postpone a Kaw Valley hearing until February and accepted staff guidance that no additional notice is required because the request came from the applicant and the public hearing had already concluded.
Mark (county staff) told the board that counsel for Kaw Valley requested a postponement so the applicant could consider public comment and return in February. "They are asking to postpone the hearing on the matter till sometime in February," Mark said, and he added that the county honors such due-process requests. When Miss McMullen asked whether the postponement affects the current hearing or process, the county counselor replied, "No, commissioner. It does not because the request is made from the applicant... Also, the public hearing has concluded. No notice requirements are needed."
On routine business, Jeff moved to accept the consent agenda "as presented" and the motion was seconded and carried with 'Aye' responses from the commissioners present. Miss McMullen also urged updating letters for an upcoming legislative breakfast, including reaffirming support for the 152 bridge project and revising a letter on the property tax gap; she asked that county documentation of support be attached where available.
Commissioners shared brief remarks, including praise for the county HR chili contest from Vanessa and a public reminder from the chair about Lansing's Christmas tree lighting at Lansing Middle School on Sunday at 6 p.m. The board then moved to adjourn.
