LRSD board adopts draft map to create seven election zones under Act 503

The Little Rock School District Board of Education adopted a draft map to establish seven school-board election zones as required by Act 503 of 2025.
A board member moved to adopt the draft map for the March election; the motion was seconded and the board discussed community workshops and efforts to preserve neighborhoods in single zones. "We had representation from zones 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7," one member noted, praising community participation in the mapping process. Another member said she was pleased the John Barrow neighborhood was kept intact.
During the vote the motion passed by voice vote; the chair announced the motion carried with two recorded "no" votes. Board members said the adopted map will be used for two election cycles and that redistricting will be revisited after the 2030 census.
The vote brings the district into compliance with the state law requiring certain districts to move from at-large elections to zone-based elections. Board members and staff said they will continue public outreach and explained the demographer and counsel are available for follow-up questions.
