Neighbors urge commissioners to block proposed RV park near Thompson Town Road

Dr. Fred Obrecht, who said he has lived and practiced in Columbus County for 40 years and is nearly finished building a retirement home on Thompson Town Road, told the board the proposed RV park would sit roughly 230–350 yards from his driveway and would bring noise, more traffic from large tow vehicles and nighttime light and music. "My concern is the noise level...We can expect substantially increased traffic," Obrecht said, and he asked commissioners to "consider not approving this project" and to present his concerns to the planning board as the rezoning moves forward.
Ricky Boswell and Robert Lashley, other nearby residents, echoed those points. Boswell said the neighborhood already has multiple mobile-home parks and a nearby landfill and that the area is "overloaded" with similar developments; Lashley cited repeated nuisance behavior by the applicant’s animals and a lack of confidence the applicant would manage an RV park responsibly.
Board response and process: Several commissioners encouraged speakers to present concerns to the planning board as the project proceeds through that process. The transcript records public-comment opposition but no final board action on the rezoning during this meeting; the project remains under review by the planning board and county staff.
