Board approves $9.9M in bond renovations and a series of facility purchases

Trustees separately approved several procurement items:
- Hydration stations: The board approved $483,000 to purchase hydration stations from Spartan Construction for multiple district buildings. Administration said this phase advances compliance with a law effective June 2026 and that the district will pursue reimbursement through the Filter First grant program after purchase.
- Lockdown safety shades: The board approved $45,095.60 to purchase and install lockdown shades from Taylor Nightlock in Clio, Michigan. Officials said this is the third order of these sidelight shades, which are to be used only in lockdown situations.
- Portable fans for gymnasiums and field houses: Trustees approved $113,874 to buy portable fans for upper elementary, middle and high school gyms and field houses to improve indoor comfort for classes and events.
- Central office generator: The district approved purchase of a stationary generator for the central office complex from Innovative Energy Controls (Howell, MI) for $435,000. Administration said the generator will provide full backup power for the central officeand preserve communications, transportation coordination and IT services in an outage.
Mister Green, presenting the items, noted that the board reviewed these recommendations at study sessions and a committee-of-the-whole meeting prior to the vote. "We did come under budget for this project as well," he said about the bond package. The motions for each purchase passed on roll-call votes recorded in the meeting minutes.
