Macomb County’s joint Internal Services and Health & Human Services committees voted to send a package of IT maintenance renewals, a cybersecurity grant award and a jail network replacement to the full county board for final consideration.
Deputy IT Director Sandy Wilson presented the maintenance renewals, saying the first-quarter maintenance package totals $11,097,747.18 and covers multiple vendors and software contracts. Wilson said the package includes per-user renewals and described the county’s recent implementation of a Zscaler secure internet access product, noting it is “about 50% implemented” and that the renewal covers roughly 2,854 per-user licenses.
Wilson also told the committee the IT department was awarded a $555,637 cybersecurity grant (a 2023 award the department said it received in 2025) that will be used for projects in 2026 and 2027 and that the county must spend first and then be reimbursed by the state. “This is our first grant that IT specifically has been able to be awarded,” Wilson said.
On a separate request, staff asked for $70,492.59 to refresh switch equipment that operates jail doors and the intercom system after an assessment found the switches require immediate replacement. IT staff said the equipment and installation will be paid from the requested amount and removed from future capital requests.
All three items were moved to the full board; committee votes on the motions were unanimous in committee (recorded as 13–0). The full board will consider the requests at a subsequent meeting.
Next steps: Each item will appear on the Board of Commissioners’ agenda for final action.
