Cornwall-Lebanon Board swears in four members and elects Ruth Ann Schlegel president

Ruth Ann Schlegel was elected president of the Cornwall-Lebanon School District Board of School Directors and Joel Zug was elected vice president at the board’s Dec. 1 reorganization meeting.
The board began the evening with the ceremonial swearing-in of four members elected to four-year terms. Judge Don Longbrightbill administered the oath of office to Elizabeth A. Garrett, Susan A. Dieffenbach, Jane Oziak and Joel Zug, each repeating the oath and signing the required paperwork.
“The way it's j l. Very official,” Judge Longbrightbill said as members signed their oaths. After the swearing-in, the board moved into the reorganization portion of the agenda and Attorney Gallo served as temporary chair for officer elections. Ruth Ann Schlegel’s nomination for president was unopposed; the board closed nominations and the secretary cast the ballot. Schlegel then assumed the chair.
Schlegel thanked the board for its support and said, “I do look forward to continuing the work together and I'm confident that we will continue, with the efforts, to do what is best for our students as we all work together.”
The president announced several appointments: Jean Hentz as primary voting delegate to the Lebanon County Tax Collection Committee (one-year term), Wesley Bensing as alternate delegate, and Diana Carpenter as the Pennsylvania School Boards Association representative and legislation chairperson. Schlegel also outlined committee assignments for board members, including building and grounds, curriculum, finance, personnel, policy, pupil services, and technology/transportation.
The board concluded the reorganization business and scheduled its next regular meeting for Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. in the LGI at South Lebanon Elementary School, citing ongoing renovations in the usual meeting room.
