Sumner County commissioners voted on Dec. 1 to add Chris Edgerton, a volunteer firefighter, to the volunteer fire department ad hoc committee.

The chair said he had emailed Edgerton's biography to commissioners and described Edgerton as 'a wealth of knowledge' and the only volunteer fire department representative on the ad hoc committee. The chair said Edgerton has been in the fire industry since 2004 and that the motion to add him carried on a voice vote.

Commissioners also reported the ad hoc committee is in the research phase, sharing information online and setting scope and priorities. The chair said he will continue to update the commission as the committee completes research and provides recommendations.

Next steps: Edgerton will serve on the volunteer fire ad hoc committee; the chair will provide future updates from the committee.
