The Infant Mortality Review Committee convened on Dec. 3 for its regular meeting, completed roll call and accepted the November minutes before voting to move into a closed executive session to discuss confidential infant death cases.
"I'm Shaina Laflam. I'm the nurse consultant for the infant mortality review program and cochair of the committee," said Shaina Laflam, who opened the meeting and led introductions. Members present included pediatricians, neonatologists, representatives from the Department of Public Health, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Department of Children and Families, among others.
Chair Laflam told attendees, "We will be moving into executive session. This is a closed discussion to discuss confidential matters related to infant deaths in Connecticut, requiring privacy to delivery on this issue." An unidentified participant moved to enter executive session; Dr. Diana Nardella seconded the motion and no opposition was raised.
Before the executive session, the committee reviewed and accepted the minutes from November after an unidentified attendee moved to accept and Nardella seconded. The chair invited public comment and reported that no members of the public were present to speak.
The meeting concluded with a reminder that the next committee meeting is scheduled for Jan. 14, 2026. A motion to adjourn was made and seconded, and the chair closed the public portion of the meeting.
