SPCSA: Charter holders told to plan for in-person appearance at Oct. 16 IFC meeting

Speaker 1, host for the SPCSA staff update, said the State Public Charter School Authority and individual charter holders are scheduled to appear before the Interim Finance Committee (IFC) on Oct. 16, with the meeting set to start at 9 a.m.

"Right now they want every school in person October 16, IFC meeting starts at 9AM," Speaker 1 said, and added she was working with the committee to secure a virtual option but that, as of the meeting, the committee expected an in-person presence in either Las Vegas or Carson City. The host said she and representatives from Washoe County LEA and Carson would present in person.

The host said the committee is likely to have questions for only a handful of schools but emphasized that a representative should be prepared to appear in person in case a committee member requests clarification about decisions the presenter could not answer remotely. "The only reason the schools need to be there is in case a member of the committee has a question about why your school made decisions you made that I cannot answer," Speaker 1 said.

When asked by Tiffany Curtis whether a district representative may attend on behalf of multiple campuses, the host clarified the attendance rule: it is one person per charter holder (for example: one person per Pinecrest, one person per Matter), not one person per campus.

SPCSA staff said they will send an email with any updates if the IFC changes its attendance expectations or allows a virtual presentation.

The meeting ended with the host urging school leaders to begin making arrangements to be available Oct. 16 in case in-person attendance is required.
