Officials say fiber runs limit Thomas Street property redevelopment; credit union move will free redesign options

Supervisor Jensen asked staff about fiber connectivity serving the Thomas Street location and whether that restricts selling or redeveloping county parcels. Staff said fiber runs through River Drive to provide service to Thomas Street, which historically limited redevelopment timing because equipment and connectivity had to remain in place while tenants occupied the site.

Staff said the credit union occupying the Thomas Street space plans to relocate in mid-next year; barring major relocation issues, that timing should allow staff to release requests for proposals for redevelopment of River Drive and Thomas Street. Staff described the sequence—RFP release, review, selection and contracting—would take long enough that current fiber infrastructure should not prevent imminent redevelopment steps.

Staff said they will provide a fuller update on services and options for eliminating or relocating the fiber connection in a future meeting or packet item.
