Committee on Committees approves several appointments, sets Dec. 9 meeting

The Richland County Committee on Committees approved multiple appointments and set meeting dates during a routine session that also flagged persistent vacancies across advisory bodies.

Chair Carol called the meeting to order and led members through a packet of vacancies and nominations. The committee voted to appoint Supervisor Thompson to the Public Safety Committee and the Pine Valley committee after a motion and second; Chair Carol said staff would reach out to confirm Thompson’s availability. "It doesn't appear that we do, so we will move on to item 7," Chair Carol said when noting there were no public commenters present.

The panel also approved the nomination of Mark Storms to the Board of Adjustment. Williamson moved the nomination and Severson seconded; members noted Storms is recently retired from Foremost Farms. Elaine Hendrix was appointed to the Library Planning Committee after members discussed meeting frequency and time-of-day constraints. Supervisor Perry was nominated and approved for the Community Health Services committee; members said that appointment would be forwarded to the full county board for confirmation.

Committee members spent substantial time reviewing gaps in committee rosters and discussed updating committee lists and the communication process so membership is current. Staff (Derek) walked through highlighted vacancies and told the group he would provide updates to the county board. Members agreed to schedule any necessary committee meeting before the county board’s December meeting; the Committee on Committees set a tentative meeting for Dec. 9 at 5:00 p.m., immediately prior to the 6:00 p.m. county board meeting, and said a fuller review of committee structure will take place in January.

No public comments were recorded during the session. The committee adjourned following a unanimous vote to end the meeting.
