The Proviso Township High School Board of Education Committee of the Whole voted Tuesday to retire into closed session at 6:13 p.m. after the presiding officer asked for a motion to do so and recited statutory exemptions.
"Can I get a motion to retire to executive session for the purposes of, a, litigation ... the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees ... collective negotiating matters ... and matters related to individual students," the presiding officer said, citing statutory language recorded in the public transcript (5 ILCS 120/2 c(11)(b); 5 ILCS 120/2 c(1); 5 ILCS 120/2 c(2); 5 ILCS 120/2 c(10)). An unidentified board member moved and another seconded; both are recorded in the transcript only as "So moved" and "Second."
A roll-call vote followed. The public record shows six "Aye" votes and then the presiding officer declared, "Motion carries." The transcript records Miss Smith as absent earlier in the proceedings. Because several speaker name spellings vary in the public transcript, the board's official minutes should be consulted for the authoritative list of how each board member voted.
Under the statutes recited in the meeting, the board may move into a closed (executive) session for the reasons listed; no further public discussion or action was recorded in the transcript before the board adjourned to closed session at 6:13 p.m.
The meeting was called to order at 6:11 p.m. and a quorum was announced before the motion to go into closed session.
