The Pitt County Board of Education elected Kelly Weaver as its chair and Mary Maultsby as vice chair during its Dec. 1 meeting. Board members nominated candidates and, after nominations were closed, members raised hands in favor and the majority elected Weaver to chair the board; Maultsby was elected vice chair following a motion to close nominations.

The leadership votes were conducted by nomination and voice/hand raise, with no roll-call tally recorded in the public transcript. The board then adopted the meeting agenda without objection and proceeded to scheduled recognitions and business.

The elections set the board’s leadership for the coming year; members offered congratulations and brief remarks of support following the results. The board adjourned later in the evening after routine business and closing comments.
