MidDel students showcase trade skills to state CareerTech board

Becky Foster of MidDel Technology Center introduced a series of student presentations that highlighted career-technical pathways and near-term employment connections.
Ivy O’Quinn, a junior in MidDel’s welding program, described learning shielded metal arc welding, her plan to attend Rose State College for business coursework and an ambition to start a welding company. Zion Rodriguez, a Del City High senior in a two-year plumbing program, said the program provides direct credit toward the journeyman’s test and allows graduates to enter the workforce debt-free. Jocelyn Laughlin, a second-year cybersecurity student, described work with SkillsUSA, a successful outreach project teaching cyber-safety in local elementary schools and earning up to 15 college credits through Rose State. Adult student Mason Bristow said the Aircraft Structures program includes resume preparation and near-term hiring opportunities at Tinker Air Force Base. Automotive student Maddie Griffin described concurrent coursework at MidDel and UCO, ASC certification opportunities, job-shadowing at a local dealership and a 40% student discount on Snap-on Tools.
Board members and staff praised the students’ presentations and noted these programs illustrate multiple pathways to careers beyond a four-year college track. A group photo and a campus tour (including Tinker Tech) were planned after the session.
The board moved on to its management agenda after the student segment.
