District advances demolition and construction steps; South Terrebonne High near final completion

Miss Dugas told the committee the modular buildings must be removed before final project completion and that the district has sent a notice of intent to terminate the modular provider’s contract at the end of the period. She said bids and specifications have been prepared and that the architect will design demolition specifications and handle bid documents.
Mister Beard, a representative from Thompson Construction, reported the high school is “this close” to reopening and listed remaining work including auditorium finishes, electrical work and final cleaning; he told the committee he expects substantial completion and certificate-of-occupancy steps to occur next month. Beard also announced he is stepping down from the project and that Dylan Trowe will finish the remaining work.
Miss Shelley gave an update on South Terrebonne Middle School: the contractor mobilized on site, steel framing and concrete pours are underway, front parking is complete, plumbing rough-in is roughly 90% complete, drainage subsurface about 40% complete, and the project is about 15% complete (approximately 200 of a 600-day construction contract) with about 23 rain-delay days so far. For LaCash Middle School, staff advertised demolition Nov. 17, scheduled a mandatory pre-bid meeting Dec. 4 and a bid opening Dec. 15; staff said demolition will include asbestos abatement and is expected to take about six months after award.
The committee voted to advance the demolition notice recommendation to the full board. Staff and construction representatives answered members’ questions about salvage, re‑site requirements and scheduling, and emphasized that FEMA requirements affect how materials are returned to original sites.
