Committee accepts lowest food-supply bids for Child Nutrition, rejects local beef bids as nonresponsive

For canned and dry goods the recommended awards included Fourcom Solutions (Prairieville) at $153,611; Gold Star Foods of Louisiana at $92,434.59; The Sayings LLC (Baton Rouge) at $163,770.30; Mark’s Food Distributors (Harvey) at $32,004.86; and S&W Wholesale Foods at $130,669.52. Committee members said funds will be derived from the Child Nutrition Program Fund.
On local beef, procurement staff told the committee that vendors either failed to complete required forms or omitted mandatory documentation, and that one vendor who initially received an award later could not prove it could meet specifications. The committee recommended rejecting all bids for local beef and re‑advertising the solicitation; staff said previously submitting vendors may reapply. When asked what constitutes a 'local beef vendor,' staff replied that a local beef vendor must have livestock raised, slaughtered and processed in the state of Louisiana.
