The Town of Selma Appearance Commission approved a certificate of appropriateness (COA) for exterior repairs and repainting at 405 North Massey Street after staff and the owner described wood rot and the need for full repainting.
Staff said the house requires replacement of soffits, fascia and some hardy board because of the extent of wood rot and proposed repainting the property using Sherwin‑Williams colors SW 7011 Natural Choice (alabaster) for the primary surfaces and SW 6178 Clary Sage for awnings and accent stripes to replace an existing dark red. Staff recommended the request was consistent with the historic district.
Samantha Patterson, who said she lives at 405 North Massey, told the commission the house has never been scraped during past paint jobs and contains lead paint, so the owner planned to encapsulate rather than scrape. Patterson said a lighter primary color would help blend newer replacement boards with older boards and retain green accents. A commissioner confirmed columns and window/chimney trim would be included in the color plan.
The commission closed the quasi‑judicial hearing, accepted testimony and evidence into the record, approved the COA, and authorized the chair to sign the COA and findings of fact when those documents are prepared.
