Board approves corrections upgrades, software maintenance and emergency water repair at detention facility

Shawnee County approved electronic access control upgrades for Community Corrections ($16,340), annual New World Software maintenance for corrections ($20,160.92), and an emergency Samco Mechanical contract ($76,999.40) to repair a water line at a detention facility; commissioners approved all measures 3–0.

Shawnee County commissioners approved several items affecting detention and corrections operations at their Dec. 1 meeting.

Steve Willis, who oversees Community Corrections, asked the board to approve upgrading six existing door locks to electronic access control systems at a cost of $16,340, to be paid from GRAMA and county funds; commissioners approved the request. Tim Phelps sought approval for the corrections portion of the annual New World Software maintenance agreement (contract C453-2025) at $20,160.92 to be paid from the detention budget; that item also passed unanimously.

Phelps also described an emergency repair (contract C451-2025) with Samco Mechanical to fix a water line break in the 1998 detention facility. He said the break was detected before service interruption and that the repair work seeks to prevent a larger rupture; the emergency contract for $76,999.40 (to be paid from GRAMA funds) was approved 3–0.

Each item was moved, seconded and approved. Staff said replacements and maintenance will proceed under the normal procurement and facilities schedules.
