Pulaski County schools present strategic plan, spotlight chronic absenteeism

The Pulaski County School Division presented a year‑long strategic plan to the board on May 13 that the superintendent described as a roadmap for goals, objectives and resource allocation.
Doctor Grant, who introduced the plan, said it grew from surveys of students, staff and the community and centers on core values such as positive relationships and high expectations. "Our vision for Pulaski County is Pulaski County Proud, making a difference 1 child at a time," she said, describing five major parts of the plan: safety, teaching, learning, community well‑being and accountability.
Grant told the board the district will concentrate on chronic absenteeism through MTSS work and counseling program supports. The plan also calls for professional development; staff noted an upcoming PLX on July 23 that will include sessions from eight VDOE representatives and local presenters on topics including AI in education and hands‑on instructional strategies.
Board members and staff described the plan as inclusive and iterative, inviting further community review and revisions. The presentation concluded with the superintendent urging board members to review the document and return questions; no formal vote on adoption was recorded during the meeting.
