Schererville Town moved through several personnel actions during the meeting, approving a conditional offer to a police candidate, accepting a reserve officer’s resignation and authorizing a promotion.
The board unanimously approved a conditional offer of employment to Joseph Thanos after staff said Thanos has about five years of law-enforcement experience in Anderson, Indiana, plus five years of military service. The motion to make the conditional offer passed by voice vote with no recorded dissents.
The board also accepted the resignation of Reserve Officer Bradley Gibson, who began reserve service in July 2023 and was reported to have averaged roughly 72 hours per quarter; staff said Gibson is leaving to accept a position with IU Health in Southern Indiana.
Separately, the board unanimously approved promotion of Officer Brett Banstra to first-class patrolman, effective Dec. 22, 2025. Police staff told the board Banstra was hired on Dec. 27, 2023, has completed required training and probationary steps, and has supervisory recommendations in his personnel file.
Fire Chief Robert Patterson requested and the board approved forwarding five employees’ vacation-rollover requests to the town for final approval and recognized five firefighters for years of service (5, 10, 15 and 25 years listed for individual employees). The board offered congratulations and holiday wishes.
Each personnel motion was moved and seconded on the record and approved by voice vote. The meeting closed after brief board remarks and an adjournment motion.
