District outlines facilities work plan: tennis court redesign, West track bid and AED replacements

Track and bids: For Proviso West, staff shared a scope of work and said a Pfeiffer price (~$25,140) exceeded thresholds that require formal bidding; the district plans to advertise and bring board approval in January with work scheduled for spring break to minimize disruption. Staff emphasized the district’s practice of seeking the 'lowest responsible bidder' and pairing smaller local contractors with larger firms to meet WBE/MBE and veteran participation goals.
AEDs: Facilities reported AED units are roughly 14 years old and becoming obsolete. A replacement plan included Proviso East ($29,009.65) and Proviso West ($22,004.73), pad replacement estimates of about $4,700 for 35 pads, and an additional $100 per unit rebate noted as a possible savings. Staff said maintenance and periodic training (CPR/AED certifications) are part of the plan.
Staff noted the district has no contractual obligation to current architectural or construction managers (Perkins and Will, Gilbane) and is open to rebidding future design/management work. Aptera (a third-party firm) offered a no-cost facilities review; staff recommended vetting their findings against prior master plans.
Trustees asked about bid outreach, local contractor preference, and prevailing-wage impacts on certain trades. No final approvals were taken at this meeting.
