Unidentified operations staff (S5) said the district saved on staffing by using administrators and student volunteers for many event roles while paying only for a small number of specialized positions, including courtside statisticians, official assigners and scoreboard operators. “We’re staffing this with our administrators… and we’ll have students helping,” S5 said.
Food-service costs were reduced by contracting vendors to sell food at the event and charging vendor fees, which S5 estimated at $75–$100 per vendor per day, rather than running district-conducted concessions. The district also plans to replace printed tickets with wristbands and to reduce hospitality-room spending from about $3,000 to $1,500 by tightening access.
Other line items cited included security ($18,000 budgeted to remain unchanged), trophies ($2,200 budgeted) and lower event-worker and operations costs compared with the prior year. S5 urged trustees to sign up for volunteer shifts during busy evening hours.
The presentation was informational; no formal board vote on the tournament budget occurred at the meeting.
