The Rhinebeck Town Board unanimously adopted Local Law No. 5 of 2025 on Nov. 24 to amend chapter 113 of the Town Code governing vehicles and traffic, adding provisions on parking, standing, stopping, removal and storage of vehicles and penalties for related infractions.
Supervisor said the law “will also empower Bob to impound, tow and ticket,” while noting the police remain an option when necessary. The board completed the required roll call vote and approved the local law unanimously.
The Supervisor explained the local law must be filed with the New York Department of State before the board can adopt parking regulations by resolution. Because of that requirement, the board tabled the parking-regulation item and plans to take it up in December after the Department of State filing is complete.
The adoption is procedural and establishes the town’s ability to remove vehicles for snow and other violations; the Supervisor and board members said the municipal enforcement authority is intended to supplement — not replace — police action where needed. No new parking signs or specific parking rules were adopted at the meeting.
